3500 lb Straight Axle Guidance

  • Minimum (No Brakes): 10" total (5" overhang per side)
  • Minimum (With Brakes): 12" total (6" overhang per side)
  • Maximum Overhang: 18" total (9" overhang per side)

Example for a 75" Hub Face:

Minimum Spring Center (No Brakes): 75" - 10" = 65" spring center

Minimum Spring Center (With Brakes): 75" - 12" = 63" spring center

Maximum Spring Center: 75" - 18" = 57" spring center

For a 75" hub face, the recommended spring center range is between 57" and 65", depending on whether the axle has brakes.

Overhang Summary
Axle overhang is the distance from the hub face to the spring center.

A shorter overhang (wider spring center) increases axle strength and improves load handling.

A longer overhang (narrower spring center) increases leverage but reduces stability and axle capacity.

Match existing spring centers when possible. This information is for guidance only.
